Forging Leaders for the 21st Century

What does it mean to be a global citizen and leader in the 21st century?
At Cushing Academy, we are dedicated to helping students answer this question, and in the process, we are preparing students for the increasingly complex world of the 21st century. We are designing every aspect of the student experience — academics, athletics, arts, extracurricular activities, dormitory experience, and student life — with this in mind.

Cushing Institute for 21st Century Leadership
The world is changing rapidly today. Technology, globalism, environmental degradation, and many other issues present young and old with a world of enormous complexity. Cushing Institute for 21st Century Leadership is an exciting new venture designed to help all Cushing students make sense of their world by learning about these major trends in accessible ways – in the classroom, through internships, by travel, and by direct contact with leaders who are shaping the new century.

Designed to help high school students understand the world of today and tomorrow, meeting students at their academic level, Cushing Institute for 21st Century Leadership will bring current issues into every classroom, spearhead new courses such as Mandarin, facilitate global travel experiences, and bring a range of speakers to campus in order to deliver the world to our students. The Center will also help students develop their leadership and entrepreneurial talents so that they can succeed to the best of their abilities amid the unprecedented challenges and opportunities they will encounter in the 21st  century.

This new program will work with all of our existing strong programs – ESL, Academic Support, college prep academics, student life, arts and even athletics – to provide every one of our students with the exciting experience of meeting people from around the globe, including world leaders, and feeling empowered to make a difference and succeed for themselves and others.

Cushing is already a global community, with students from over twenty-five countries and alumni/ae around the world who are international business leaders, sports stars, renowned artists, leading academics, and even royalty. With the launch of its Cushing Institute for 21st Century Leadership, we are focusing on making this record of success a networking opportunity for all of its students to build their global awareness, to inspire them to high aspirations, and to learn the skills they will need to succeed today and throughout their lives.
