Performing Arts

In the Performing Arts Program, Cushing students take advantage of diverse classes and activities in drama, dance and music. From staged productions to small performances and individual lessons, our offerings provide many creative outlets and avenues of self-expression for students at every level.

Drama enthusiast find opportunities to act, write, direct and choreograph for several productions every year. Recent accomplishments by Cushing cast and crew include Grease, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Macbeth, Guys and Dolls, King Lear and one-act student plays.

Dancers create two concerts each year while musical groups such as the chorus and jazz ensemble perform throughout. Students can learn or pursue advanced study on virtually any instrument, as well as music theory and history.

The opening of the Joseph R. Curry Academic Center in January 2005 has transformed the entire Performing Arts department, by offering state-of-the-art practice and rehearsal space for students and faculty. Highlights include a dance studio, individual musical practice rooms, large theatre space and a 16-track recording studio and multimedia lab for students studying digital video.
