Newsbrief: Redesigned library opens for students, classes and collaboration

Returning to campus after enjoying a long weekend, Cushing students found the doors to the redesigned Fisher-Watkins Library open for the first time on Tuesday, October 13. Librarians welcomed the open house visitors who eagerly explored the collaborative learning environment, complete with instruction space, study carrels and a cyber café. Students also got acquainted with the Academy’s collection of over 70 e-readers and a number of new online datasources. Says Tom Corbett, Executive Director of Media and Academic Technology, “It was very satisfying for our staff to see how quickly and enthusiastically our students adopted this new library space as their own.”

The Academy believes the transformation of its library from one that was primarily print to one that is primarily digital will serve as a national model for 21st century school libraries.
