Open Content Curricula

Cushing Academy is dedicated to exploring and developing the academic programs and teaching methods that best address the needs of our students as they prepare to be leaders in this new era. Every course — in subject matter, structure, perspective, or all three — encompasses key elements of 21st-century learning.

While honing relevant traditional skills such as critical thinking and analysis, our students also focus on new technologies, new research techniques for winnowing down massive amounts of available data, new ethical and cultural issues arising from the global nature of our shrinking world, and more. In every context, they are also learning to be comfortable with constant change.

We plan to make all of our curricula available as freeware to independent schools and all other interested parties. Every semester, we will be developing a new curriculum in collaboration with our Oxford Scholars-in-Residence, and this too will be shared as open source material.

Why are we doing this? We believe that all of today’s high school students could benefit from our approach — and we believe that openness and the sincere sharing of good information should be among the few constants of the 21st century.
