Attention 8th, 9th and 10th grade students!
Cushing Academy is sponsoring a national art contest, featuring cash awards and full scholarships to the Academy’s 2008 Summer Session Studio Art Program. You may submit up to four pieces for consideration in the following media: photography, painting, drawing, illustration, pottery, jewelry design and computer-generated art.
The entry deadline is Thursday, March 1, 2008. You may download the rules and contest entry form from Cushing’s web site, www.cushing.org, or you may call the Cushing Academy Visual Arts Department at 978.827.7066.
Cushing Academy, founded in 1865, offers a coeducational, independent boarding program for students in grades 9-12, as well as a five-week Summer Session for boys and girls, ages 13-18. In addition to our strong academics, Cushing has intensive programs in the visual arts. Beginners to advanced student artists enjoy unique courses in silversmithing, stone-cutting and stained glass, as well as in traditional media. Art Contest Official Rules
Call For Entries Deadline: Thursday, March
1, 2008

Students currently enrolled in the 8th, 9th or 10th grade are eligible to enter. Previous contest winners are also eligible.

Work copied from published photographs, magazines, book illustrations or other sources will not be accepted.

All visual arts entries can be submitted by slide or digital file. Please place slides in a plastic sleeve. Do not send original artwork. No more than four pieces may be submitted. Numbers corresponding to the inventory form, as well as the artist’s first and last name, must be clearly marked on the mount, with “up” indicated. All slide entries must be listed on the inventory form, indicating the artist’s name, the title, the medium and the dimensions. Computer graphics entries must be listed on the inventory form indicating student’s name, title of work, length, standard and format.

Artwork submissions must accompany the Cushing Academy Inventory of Artwork Form with a non-refundable $5 application fee.

All entries become the property of Cushing Academy and cannot be returned. Cushing Academy reserves the exclusive right to authorize the reproduction of all entries in any form.

All entries must be received by Cushing Academy no later than March 1, 2008. Students must submit the completed application form and the Inventory of Artwork Form to:

Work will be juried by a panel of judges, including nationally-known painters Richard Whitney and Sandy Sherman, and Cushing art faculty. Only entries which meet the standards set by the judges will be awarded scholarships. Cushing Academy will promptly notify winning entrants of the results by telephone after March 24, 2008.
