When will my enrollment
packet arrive?
Once we receive your enrollment deposit for the 2008 Summer
Session, we immediately send your enrollment packet. You
should
expect to receive this information within four weeks from
that date. If you do not receive the packet in that time,
please call the Summer Session Office at 978-827-7700 or
e-mail summersession@cushing.org.
My son/daughter has
a valid tourist visa. Does he/she need an F-1 student visa?
All international students must have student visas. They are
not visitors nor are they covered under any of the other possible
non-immigrant categories that exist (with a few exceptions,
e.g. dependents of diplomats). Students are expected to enter
the country in the correct status and to state their purpose
for entering the United States when they arrive at the border.
What medical immunizations
does Cushing require?
As required by the State of Massachusetts, every student must
submit a Physician's Certificate that documents the date that
the child has been successfully immunized against Diphtheria,
Pertussis (Whooping Cough), Tetanus, Measles, Poliomyelitis,
German Measles (Rubella) and Mumps. Please be certain to complete
the Medical Form in the Cushing Enrollment Packet prior to
your child's arrival.
Is there a local
bank or ATM where we should open an account for our son or daughter?
Students must use their own ATM debit card to get cash from the secure terminal in the Student Center. NOTE:Cushing no longer maintains students’ funds in individual accounts nor distributes cash from these accounts to students. We recommend that students do not bring large amounts of cash on registration day. Students should not keep cash in any amount in their rooms. Students should place all passports, airline tickets and other valuables in the school safe.
What should my daughter/son
pack?
During the Summer Session, students and faculty dress informally
but neatly. Students should be sure to bring appropriate clothing
and extra equipment for swimming and other athletic activities,
and for inclement weather. Summer temperatures average 75
-80 degrees Fahrenheit (24 - 27 degrees Celsius). A complete
packing checklist is available in the Student Handbook. Please
note that linens are available on campus.
What should my daughter/son
bring for International Evening?
International Evening is an exciting campus celebration of
diverse cultures. Be sure to bring favorite recipes of traditional
food from your country, traditional clothing, as well as photographs,
posters, magazines, books, cassettes/compact discs, videos
and other cultural artifacts that show what life is like in
your country.
My son/daughter
plans to bring a laptop computer to Cushing. How should we
configure the computer?
If your son or daughter wants to connect to the Cushing Network
and the Internet, you must have an Ethernet card and cable
installed prior to arriving at Cushing. More information is
also available by reading Technology at Cushing Academy in
your Enrollment Packet.
When should my
child arrive at Cushing?
Further travel information is included in the acceptance packet. Arrival dates are as follows:
- Five Week Session (July 5 – August 9)
Who will accompany
12 - 13 year-olds on field trips?
Younger students are carefully monitored in small groups by
faculty chaperones who are in direct contact with them at
all times. Younger students may not be chaperoned or supervised
by an older student. Due to safety concerns, no exceptions
are made.
