Explore: Native American Art of New Mexico
June 24–July 1, 2004
We are pleased to offer you a rare opportunity
to visit and work with Native American artists in their
pueblo
environments in and around Santa Fe and Albuquerque.
You will be able to observe potters, silversmiths, painters
and sculptors at work and participate in hands-on workshops
with individual native artists. Tuition for this program
is $2,000, not including airfare.
During this weeklong experiential learning
program you will have opportunities to create photographic
essays of
the beautiful landscapes of the region and to make pinch
pots with the world-famous Lewis sisters. You also will
see examples of native adobe homes and other southwestern
structures and architectural/construction techniques. You
will spend time at a variety of cultural institutions such
as The Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian, Museum
of Indian Arts and Culture, Southwest Association of American
Indian Arts, the Pueblo Cultural Center, Hurd Museum of
the American Indian and the Georgia O’Keefe Museum.
You also will visit the Pueblos of Santa Ana, Cochiti and
Acoma. If you are also taking Studio Art during the summer,
you will be given preference for space on this trip. Ox
tail soup, silver stamping and a ghost walk through Santa
Fe are all ways you will learn more about art, Native American
culture and yourself.
