English Department Head

Cushing Academy seeks to hire an English Department Head to start in mid-August 2019.

The Department Head serves to align the English Department with the vision and mission of the school and is responsible for creating a creative, challenging, and supportive learning environment. The Department Head models and fosters a culture of curiosity, collaboration, feedback, and reflection; advocates for the needs of individual members and the department as a whole; and serves as a liaison for internal and external constituencies.
Responsibilities include teaching four sections of English and serving on the Academic Chairs Committee. Additional responsibilities include serving as an advisor, supervising a dormitory, and coaching or leading an afternoon activity for two seasons.  The Department Head reports to the Director of Academic Affairs.
At a minimum, qualified candidates will hold a master's degree in English or related field and will have taught English at the high school level for five years. Successful candidates will share Cushing Academy's commitment to diversity in all aspects of school life.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter and resume to David A. Stone, Dean of Faculty, at dstone@cushing.org.
