Cushing Academy seeks a Director of the Fisher-Watkins Library, starting August 1, 2019.
In 2008, Cushing made the bold decision to become a dynamic 21st-century library—a library comprised primarily of a digital collection with state-of-the-art learning and innovation spaces, and technology. Today, the Fisher-Watkins Library has a collection of 3,250 print books and 3000 e-books on our 30 Kindle devices; has access to 5000 open access books and 12 million academic journal, books and primary sources in 75 disciplines through JSTOR. In addition, Gale and Infobase subscriptions provide Cushing students and faculty access to millions of articles, videos, and photographs, plus hundreds of newspapers, over 4000 magazines, the Encyclopedia Britannica (both English and Spanish versions), and over 500 international films from five continents. Our recent subscription to Digital Theater + gives the community access to over 300 theater performances, 200 interviews with actors, playwrights and directors, and teacher lesson plans. Finally, our partnership with the Ashburnham Town Library provides access to interlibrary loans throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, including access to their Overdrive collection of books and magazines, RBdigital Magazine Value Collection of over 80 popular magazines, and Universal Class which offers over 500 online classes.
Cushing seeks a Director to help the Academy continue to provide the community with a dynamic library that meets its academic and cultural needs of our students and faculty. The Director plays a leading role in building the collection; provides a program that fosters information literacy; promotes a love of reading; and assists students in developing a foundation for further education, research, and learning. The Director reports to the Director of Academic Affairs.
