Last week, the Cushing Academy Dance Program presented “RESPITE”, a dance showing with original choreography by students of the program and Ms. Rice, Director. The program highlighted work from all dance classes, which included Dance I/II, Dance II/III, Advanced Dance, and After School/Evening Dance classes.
Advanced Dance performed two works, one choreographed by Ms. Rice for their professional performance at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival. The final section of “Busy Blues” was a humorous piece that depicted the idea of business folk not being able to stop moving when they hear the infectious boogie sounds by Jonah Jones and Paolo Conte. “Domino” was a 1970s-inspired jazz work that was full of life and fun.
The two intermediate classes performed works by TrentmØller and Peter Jones, which expressed their technical work in Modern Contemporary dance. Selina Seng performed original Chinese Contemporary work. Other dance highlights included an original Hip-Hop work by Senior Catherine Zeng, an Indian Classical dance by Manisah Islam and Ashleigh Reid, and a dramatic Modern Contemporary piece by Leona Weinberger and Manisah Islam.
Dancers included Brianna Coppinger, Catherine Zeng, Arielle Auringer, Yukina Hawaki, Jillian Stone, Alexie Otto, Selina Seng, Rosie Xu, Rebecca Ren, Manisah Islam, Ashleigh Reid, Leona Weinberger, Rachelle Wu, Lily Shu, and Krystal Sun.
Tech Crew included Christian Lightheart, and Paul Ingersoll.
