Dedication of Wayne Hancock Baseball Diamond

On Saturday, May 5, the Wayne Hancock Baseball Diamond was formally dedicated at Adams Field. Friends, family, current and former faculty members, and those who generously donated to the project, gathered to honor Wayne Hancock, a legendary teacher and coach whose Cushing career spanned nearly four decades.

The afternoon’s speakers included Co-Head of School Peggy Lee, Athletic Director Bill Troy, Bill Kelly ’90, Trustee Sue Wight, Ryan Duff ’06, and Wayne and Maria Hancock’s two children: Cristina ’05, and Jaime ’02. Madison Lessard ’18 sang the National Anthem, and Austin Hancock, the honoree’s grandson, threw out the first pitch. Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed a barbeque on the library terrace and later, the current varsity team’s senior game vs.NMH.
Upwards of 120 parents, alumni, and friends have donated to this project, and we are pleased to report that we are also very close to an extended goal to replace the aging backstop. This wonderful effort was led by Trustee Sue Wight and her son Ryan Duff ’06.
