Common Read 2018

The Common Read Committee is proud to present a book that will be sure to have our Cushing community talking for a long time: All American Boys by Jason Reynolds and Brendon Kiely. The book, a New York Times best-seller, has been the recipient of twenty-six awards, including the Coretta Scott King Author Honor Book and the Walter Dean Myers award. This fast-paced and sadly topical story, narrated by high school students, will help us as a school navigate discussions that are difficult, but essential. Because of this, All American Boys will be an integral part of preseason sports and school orientation activities, as well a writing assignment through your advisory group. All students and faculty will receive a copy of this book. Remember to bring it with you to school in the fall.

In addition, the Committee has curated a supplemental reading list that we call “Different Voices.” Unlike All American Boys, which is required summer reading, “Different Voices” is optional, but highly recommended. You will have formal opportunities to discuss your choices in the fall as well.
