Summer Session Program Highlights: July 27

The highlight of Week Four in Prep for Success was Wednesday's trip to the Museum of Science where students watched an IMAX movie about the Great Barrier Reef and visited the Hayden Planetarium where they learned about distant exoplanets. Already, students are eagerly anticipating their return to Boston on Sunday, this time for the magical evening aboard the Spirit of Boston.
In Week Four, Critical Skills took a trip to Newport, Rhode Island. The group spent the day touring two mansions–The Breakers and Rosecliff–and enjoyed exploring the Cliff Walk. In the afternoon, the students spent some time shopping and checking out the local ice cream spots in downtown Newport.
Intramurals wrapped up this week with championship titles going to The Bulls (basketball) and the Yellow team (soccer). Next week, students chosen for the all-star teams will compete against an all-faculty team.
This summer we instituted a Leadership Program to discover student leaders and bring them together to make a lasting contribution to an important cause that we, as a community, believe in. Over the last few weeks, our staff has found six incredible students to help initiate this program. These students met with faculty to discuss and identify key issues and changes they support. The initiatives chosen for this year are fighting poverty in the local area, recycling, and discussing diversity with the Summer Session community along with the importance of communication and understanding. The students involved in this program will be receiving a separate and special certificate in recognition of their efforts.
