Fall Dance Concert: SPECTRUM

Cushing Academy Dance presented their fall dance concert, SPECTRUM, on November 8 and 9 in Cowell Chapel. In addition to faculty choreography, a large number of student choreographers showcased their creative voices in original and diverse dance pieces; styles ranged from Bollywood to ballet, and contemporary to hip-hop.

Seniors Selina Shen, Jillian Stone, and Arielle Auringer were spotlighted in Ms. Rice’s advanced contemporary piece "PINK", an innovative modern work. Other highlights included a Chinese-inspired solo by Angela Tao '19, original contemporary choreography by Selina Shen, and Bollywood by Manisah Islam '20. A creative hip-hop piece choreographed to the music of Aywy and Ephrem by Krystal Sun '19, Rachelle Wu '20, and the Intermediate Dance class was also performed.
Ballet and historic Denishawn were featured in SPECTRUM, including a new work, "Adagio", performed by intermediate students, as well as Ted Shawn's "Statue" (1920) dance, and excerpts of "Wine, Women and Song" (1932).
