VBBIH vs. New Hampton School: CA 5; New Hampton 1

Cushing Academy – 5 New Hampton School – 1 The Cushing Varsity B Boys’ Hockey Penguins traveled to New Hampton School for a Saturday afternoon match-up and came away with a convincing 5-1 victory. The Penguins jumped out early to a 3-0 lead behind goals from Brendan Dougherty ‘20, Josh Beese ‘19 and captain Adam Canfield ‘19. Despite the commanding three goal lead to start the second period, the Penguins did not play their best hockey in the second period and to start the third period. The New Hampton Huskies capitalized on the sloppy play by the Penguins and cut the deficit to a more manageable 3-1 deficit on a power play goal. This Husky goal reignited the Penguins and defenseman Matt McFadden ’22 brought the Cushing lead back up to 3 with his first career Cushing goal. Dougherty closed out the scoring on the day when he put up his second of the game to seal the 5-1 victory for the Penguins. Goaltending duties were split between Pat Aalto ’20 and Ben Speyer ’20. Aalto lead the way with 5 saves in the first two periods and added an assist on the first Penguins goal. Aalto gave way to fellow junior Speyer for the third period and Speyer finished out the contest with 2 saves. John Lessard ’20 had a strong game grinding in the corners, not allowing himself to be moved off the puck easily, and getting pucks deep. The team will remain on the road when they travel to the New England Sports Center in Marlboro, MA to take on the Hillside School this Wednesday, Dec. 5th at 3:30pm. Season Record: 2-0-0
