VBB vs. Masters School: CA 66; Masters 53

Cushing Academy – 66
Masters School – 53

The Cushing Varsity Boys’ Basketball team took to the road on Friday night as they traveled to Barrington, Rhode Island to take on the Masters School in a neutral site AA battle. It was an early season battle between the teams, but Cushing prevailed in the end with a 66-53 win over a solid opponent.

Early in the game, Cushing used great defensive intensity and athleticism to convert numerous steals into fast break transition points. The Penguins rallied to a 9-0 start, which was countered by a strong effort from Masters to disrupt the Penguin offense on the defensive end.

Top contributions came from Daman Tate ‘19, who led the Penguins in scoring with 15 points. Tate was a monster on both ends of the floor in the first half as he imposed his will on the opposition to take control of the game. Bensley Joseph ’21 poured in 12 points and provided a wonderful spark on the defensive end corralling steals and rebounds. Ethan Menzies ’19 and Malachi Ndur ’20 were a dominant duo in the second half giving Cushing a strong presence on the interior.

Cushing will have a quick turnaround between games as they travel back to St. Andrews School in Barrington, RI tomorrow and Sunday to round out an opening weekend 3-game set. Tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 1st the team will match-up against Bridgton Academy at 12:00pm. They will close out the weekend on Sunday with a 12:00pm tip-off against South Kent School.
