VBB vs. Bridgton Academy: CA 73; Bridgton 34

Cushing Academy – 73
Bridgton Academy – 34
The Cushing Varsity Boys’ Basketball team was back on the courts with less than 24-hours rest time between games, but they showed no fatigue as they easily handled the post-graduates of Bridgton Academy. Each team brought a hard-nosed style of play resulting in some intense competitions throughout the game. From the get go Cushing raised its level of effort and aggressiveness to heights unreachable for the Bridgton team. Cushing left no doubt early on they would come out on top and they did with a 73-34 win.
With several players unable to make the trip due to SAT’s, Cushing relied on a true team effort where numerous players filled the different roles and offered positive contributions. The sharp shooting duo of Kyle Murphy ’19 and Sean Conway ‘19 led the way on offense, as Murphy poured in 18 and Conway added 13. Alexis Matos-Reyes ‘21 played a tough game inside and out with 9 points from all over the floor. Andrew Kirkpatrick ’19 joined Matos-Reyes in the scoring of 9 points on the afternoon. In addition, Kirkpatrick was making wonderful assist plays to help spread the scoring around to his teammates. Will Campbell ’20 provided top notch energy and efforts on the defensive end with multiple basket saving plays, including taking a charge and a chase down block from behind. Campbell helped-out on the offensive end when he netted 4 points.
The team will return to St. Andrews School tomorrow for another neutral site game with the last opponent of the weekend being South Kent School. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:00pm.
Season Record: 3-0
