VBB vs. South Kent School: CA 53; South Kent 60

South Kent School – 60
Cushing Academy – 53
The Cushing Varsity Boys’ Basketball team was back on the road for their third game in less than 72 hours when they returned to neutral site St. Andrew’s School to take on South Kent School. It was evident early on the legs of the Cushing players were feeling the fatigue of 3 days of travel and games as they were eventually ousted by South Kent by a score of 60-53.
South Kent won the opening tip and struck gold first a deep three-pointer. The strong efforts from South Kent made it difficult for Cushing to operate efficiently in transition and Cushing was finding it difficult to find a groove. Points off transition had been a staple for Cushing over the past two games and South Kent were shutting down the transition game and taking potential points off the board for the Penguins. South Kent utilized their versatility and depth at all positions to wear down the Cushing team, to get into the lane, to find open shooters on the perimeter, and to make the shots. The Penguins were stifled by South Kent and were unable to gain a lead at any point during the game. South Kent eventually put the game away with some free throws and strong efforts on the defensive end to not allow Cushing any easy baskets.
Despite coming out on the wrong end of the scoreboard, the Cushing Penguins had a strong weekend and have much to look forward to as this young season progresses. Next up for the Penguins is a Wednesday, Dec. 5th date with Vermont Academy at 4:30pm.
Season Record: 3-1
