VBB vs. Vermont Academy: CA 66; Vermont 57

Cushing Academy – 66
Vermont Academy - 57

The Cushing Academy Varsity Boys’ Basketball team made the trip up to Vermont Academy, where they were set to battle a skilled AA opponent. Following a loss to South Kent the Penguins were hungry for a win and brought an energy and noise to Saxtons River that electrified the gym.

Early in the action the Penguins stifled their opponent’s offensive sets with their defense forcing many turnovers and difficult shots. Kyle Murphy was the hot hand to start the game for the Penguins as he buried threes and corralled offensive rebounds for easy put backs. Helping out on the offensive end was Sean Conway, who nailed two threes in the first half. At the end of the first 18 minutes of play the Penguins were up 33-22. In the second half Cushing worked hard to force tough shots from Vermont Academy to stifle their scoring. On the offensive end, the Penguins were impressive on the interior to gather offensive rebounds get the ball into the post to break down the Vermont defense. A demonstration of strong will and physical toughness carried the visitors throughout the rest of the ball game. The final score was 66-57 in favor of Cushing.
