VBB vs. Canterbury School: CA 74; Canterbury 69

Cushing Academy – 74
Canterbury School - 69

The Cushing Varsity Boys’ Basketball team headed to Babson College for a neutral site game versus Canterbury School.

The well-coached Canterbury team was a formidable opponent for the Penguins, who struggled to get things going early on. Canterbury took care of the ball and worked hard to limit Penguin second chance opportunities to hold the purple and white to a below average performance on the scoreboard in the first half.

The second half resulted in a Cushing comeback prompted by Cushing's energy and competitive edge. Down 12 points with 10 minutes remaining in the game, the arctic birds had their backs against the wall and needed a spark. Jaden Bobbett was that spark and a key piece in providing the grit needed to turn the game around. Steals led to easy baskets for Cushing and second chance points helped offer a boost as well. Key contributors on the offensive end were Bensley Joseph, Kyle Murphy, and Damen Tate. Joseph was hot from the land of three, Murphy was instrumental in facilitating from the interior, and Tate found the easy baskets around the rim. Alexis Reyes and Malachi Ndur were also featured in the lineup responsible for pulling the Penguins back into the game.

The final score was a 74-69 win for Cushing. It was a gritty, come-from-behind win the team was proud to get under their belt.

Next up for the team is several pre-holiday break games at St. Andrew’s School on Friday, Dec. 14th and Saturday, Dec. 15th. The first game is a 5:45pm match-up vs. Proctor Academy on Friday, Dec. 14th.
