VBBIH vs. Top Gun: CA 3; Top Gun 4

Top Gun – 4
Cushing Academy – 3
The Cushing Varsity “B” Boys’ Hockey team played in the nightcap for the 10th Annual Pink the Rink event with all proceeds going towards Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Despite the excitement of playing for a great cause in front of some stellar fans, the team came up short against a young and skilled Top Gun team.
The Penguins went down 1-0 in the first period before Garrett Young scored the equalizer on a feed by Nick White. The second period was a tough period for the Penguins as they let up three more goals and Top Gun went up 4-1 heading into the second intermission. The Penguins came out of the locker room for the third period after reevaluating their game plan and they played in a more determined fashion. Young added his second of the game with an assist going to Shane McElhaney to bring the score to 4-2 in favor of Top Gun. Cushing was not down there and cut the Top Gun lead to 4-3 on a Brendan Dougherty goal. Unfortunately, this would be as close as the Penguins would get and Top Gun held on for a 4-3 win.
Strong games were had by Penguins goal tender Ben Speyer, who tallied 26 saves on the night, and Young with 2 goals and an assist.
The Penguins look to rebound this coming Wednesday, Jan. 9th with a 3:15pm game against Phillips Exeter Academy on the Penguins home ice.
Season Record: 3-2-1
