JVBB vs. Hillside School: CA 64; Hillside 39

Cushing Academy – 64
Hillside School - 39
In their first of four games this week, the Cushing JV Boys’ Basketball team looked to continue their high-level play as they took on Hillside School at home in the Watkins Field House for a rare Monday afternoon game.
Hillside scored off the opening tip, but after that first basket the Penguins locked in on defense, holding Hillside's offense to only 13 points in the first half. On this particular day, it was the court vision and awareness of Jaylen Smith (6 Points) that sparked the offense early in the first half, finding the open man both in half court sets and while running in transition. It wasn't long before Brett Feinsod (11 Points) joined in on the action, driving into the middle of the zone and making the timely extra pass to cutters in the lane, getting everyone involved on offense and ultimately resulting in a 32-13 lead going into halftime.
With the zone offense clicking early in the first half, the Cushing post players began to get involved on the boards, leading to numerous second-chance points from Daniel Kodsi (6 Points), Denzel Ben Roosalem (10 Points), and Brendan Samson (4 Points).
Maintaining their defensive intensity, the second half of the game saw the Penguins forcing turnovers and scoring in transition, with a flurry of points coming off hustle plays from Karabo Muhammad (8 Points) and Patrick Carroll (10 Points), who also had a superb shooting night.
Cushing closed out the game with a sizable lead, building upon their performance from last weekend's win. They look to continue their winning ways as they head to New Hampshire to take on Cardigan Mountain School this Wednesday, Jan. 9th at 4:00pm before returning back to Ashburnham for home games on Friday and Saturday.
