JV2BB vs. Milton Academy: CA 36; Milton 17

Cushing Academy – 36
Milton Academy – 17
The Cushing JV2 Boys’ Basketball team hopped on the buses to head out to Milton Academy for their first game of the 2019 calendar year. The team had been back on campus for a week from the holiday break and used the practice time to get themselves focused and prepared for the game, and it paid off!
The game was a bit slow from the tip as both teams tried to settle into offensive rhythms, but it wasn’t long before the Penguins got themselves in-sync. Milton had trouble getting to the hoop as Cushing’s relentless man-to-man defense smothered their offensive hopes. The Penguins used their size advantage to wipe the glass clean on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. With only two shooting fouls going way of the Penguins, they used their control on the boards to ensure some second and third chance points off rebounds. It was a comfortable lead as the halftime buzzer sounded and Cushing continued to control play in the second half.
Everyone received playing time and contributed on the court as evidenced by the scoring. Cooper Caiozzo again led the team in scoring with 10 points in addition to pulling down several rebounds and forcing a few steals. Jeffrey Fang had a huge game in the paint as he netted 8 points and grabbed a few rebounds to boot. Tony Tong had 4 points on the afternoon while Robinson Zhou saw nothing but net on a sweet three-point shot. Contributing 2-points apiece were Justin Zhuang, Kit Tang, Jack Wu, and Thang Phung. Rounding out the scoring was Michael Bertin with a point from the line.
The boys are back in action in a home game on Friday, Jan. 11th against Lawrence with a 4:30pm tip in Heslin Gymnasium.
Season Record: 2-1
