VBIH vs. Deerfield Academy: CA 5; Deerfield 1

Cushing Academy – 5
Deerfield Academy – 1
The Cushing Varsity Boys’ Hockey team bounced back from their road loss on Wednesday with a sound road victory on Friday. The Penguins handed highly ranked Deerfield Academy a 5-1 thumbing in their new barn.
After a scoreless opening period, the Big Green struck first while on the power play following the intermission.  Cushing quickly replied with two goals of their own to take the lead 2-1.  Jake Hewitt got the Penguins on the board first on a rebound off a Brad Zona shot.  Then it was Patrick Borella who finished off a beautiful shorthanded two-on-one when he received a nifty pass from Nick Cafarelli.  It was all Penguins in the third period as they lit the lamp three more times to make it the 5-1 final. Max Dorrington buried a loose puck during a net front skirmish putting the Penguins up 3-1. Hewitt got his second of the game on the power play when he tipped in a Bryce Montgomery point shot putting the Penguins into a comfortable 4-1 lead. Cody Sealey closed out the scoring on the night when he joined the up-ice rush and tapped one in on the back door.  Goaltender Joe Sharib shut the door making 22 saves on the night.
Next up is a rare Sunday home game at Iorio Arena at 2:30pm when the Penguins will face Loomis Chaffee School.
Season Record: 8-5-2
