VBB vs. Deerfield Academy: CA 62; DA 38

Cushing Academy – 62
Deerfield Academy – 38
The Cushing Varsity Boys’ Basketball team visited the beautiful campus of Deerfield Academy to take on the Big Green ballers. Cushing was coming off a win against KUA and eager to face another NEPSAC opponent to improve on their record. Deerfield features a well-balanced team with a strong post presence and outstanding shooting on the perimeter. Cushing showed they were ready to extend the defense and to play tough against this well-rounded team as the Penguins jetted out to an early lead. Cushing threw many different defenses at Deerfield to keep them off balance. Steals and transition points were the name of the game in this one as Cushing seemed to be all over the floor on defense and Penguins were running wild on offense. Andrew Kirkpatrick provided an amazing effort which spirited the team in the first half. He and Sean Conway combined for 7 steals in the first half. The entire Cushing team made their presence known as everyone made an appearance on the court. Each player attempted a field goal and almost everyone scored.
Highlight of the day: Daman Tate made a Sportscenter Top-10 worthy play as he drove baseline in the second half and elevated over Deerfield's primary interior presence. At the peak of his jump he threw down a one-handed slam that rocked the gym. Even the Deerfield fans were observed cheering in respect and admiration of the play.
