VBB vs. St. Andrews School: CA 56; St. Andrews 64

St. Andrew’s School – 64
Cushing Academy - 56

In their second game in under 24-hours, the Cushing Varsity Boys’ Basketball team welcomed St. Andrew’s School to the Watkins Field House for the rivalry’s first meeting of 2019. Although it was the first meeting of the year, the teams know each other well and both came to compete on this dreary Saturday afternoon. The familiarity made scoring difficult for both sides early in the contest. By the end of the first half the Penguins had scrounged up 28 points while St. Andrews used a few three pointers and a few offensive put-backs to take the edge with 29 points.

The teams came out of the locker rooms and into the second half of the game for more of the same heated competition. With neither team truly hitting their stride it came down to who was going to tough it out and which way the ball was going to bounce.  At the end of the day, the Penguins were trailing 56-64 and the Barrington, RI rivals left with a win. These two teams will likely meet again in the postseason as both are featured to be a top AA team at the end of the season.

The Cushing Penguins will host Winchendon on Wednesday, Jan. 23rd at 3:30pm. This will be the first in a few seasons the varsity Rt. 12 rivals have matched-up against each other.

Scoring for the Penguins:
Kyle Murphy – 15 points
Daman Tate – 15 points
Sean Conway – 11 points
Alexis Reyes – 6 points
Bensley Joseph – 5 points
Ethan Menzies – 4 points

Season Record: 12-3
