VBB vs. Proctor Academy: CA 81; PA 67

Cushing Academy – 81
Proctor Academy – 67
The Cushing Academy Varsity Boys’ Basketball welcomed Proctor Academy to the Watkins Field House for a Wednesday afternoon tilt. It was the second meeting between the teams on the season and both teams were rolling in hot for this one.
Early on Cushing played tough defense to limit Proctor's attempts around the rim, but Proctor did well from beyond the arc and mid-range to keep themselves scoring. This early scoring saw Proctor run out on Cushing, but the Penguins utilized turnovers to get out into transition and score the ball. In the half court, the Penguins took advantage of their size and physicality to score numerous points in the paint. Kyle Murphy ’19 started the game hot with the first 5 points for the Penguins, but from there it was a total team effort with spread scoring and a great demonstration on how to share the ball. The second unit came off the bench to give a needed boost and open-up a double-digit lead. The second rotation was comprised of Daniel Braster ‘20, Ethan Menzies ‘19, Alexis Matos-Reyes ‘21, Andrew Kirkpatrick ‘19, Sean Okpoebo ‘20 and Jaden Bobbett ‘21. Braster provided a scoring presence and defensive intensity to spark his Penguin teammates and it was a 39-29 Cushing lead at the half. Proctor came out of the halftime break with guns blazing and ready to battle back. Their talented and dynamic guard play helped Proctor to pull the game to within 4 points with 6 minutes to go. Knowing they needed to buckle down, the Penguins dug their heels in to make some tough defensive stops and played disciplined on the offensive end to seal the game for Cushing. The Penguins walked off their home court with an 81-67 win.
