Fresh off the long weekend, the Cushing JV Boys’ Basketball team took to the court for a matchup against the Eaglebrook School at home in Heslin Gym.
A defensive tone was set early on, with Eaglebrook playing a high 3-2 zone looking to force the Cushing offense into the corners. Through great ball movement, in-game adjustments, and some stellar court vision from the likes of Karabo Muhammad and Ethan Money, the Penguins responded with success. Money (9 Points) stretched the zone after hitting back-to-back threes within the opening minutes of the game, later opening-up opportunities for Eli Frazier (3 Points) and Brendan Samson (2 Points) to jump in on the action early in the game. On the other end of the floor, Eaglebrook created off the dribble, hitting some tough shots and ultimately going into the half up by one in a tightly contested match.
Coming out in the second half, the Penguins took over in the paint and went on a run sparked by the low-post work of Denzel Ben Roosalem (16 Points) and Daniel Kodsi (12 Points), both of whom were monsters on the glass all game. Additionally, Brett Feinsod (12 Points) demonstrated his ability to drive the lane, finishing through contact and finding opening shooters like Cole Kronberg (5 Points) late in the half allowing Cushing to get out to a comfortable lead they would never relinquish in the second half.
After suffering back-to-back losses where they had struggled on the defensive end, the Penguins started to return to form and showed glimpses of the team defense they are capable of playing. While this win puts a halt on their two-game skid, the team looks to continue rebuilding on the defensive end as they get a rematch with Phillips Academy Andover this Friday, Feb. 8th at 5:15pm in Heslin Gym - stay tuned!
