VBIH vs. Canterbury School: CA 1; CS 5

Canterbury School – 5
Cushing Academy – 1

The Cushing Varsity Boys’ Hockey Penguins made the near three-hour bus trip to New Milford, CT on Saturday afternoon to face-off against Canterbury School.

A slow start by the Penguins resulted in two early goals by the Saints – one off an unfortunate bounce and the other off a costly Penguin turnover. The Penguins were able to cut the lead in half in the second period on a goal by Jake Hewitt ’20 with assists from Nick Cafarelli ’20 and Jacob Banks ’20. Despite outshooting their opponents 42-21, the Penguins were unable to score again and complete the comeback.  Penalty trouble plagued the Penguins in the third period, the Saints netted three more goals, and the Penguins lost by a final score of 5-1.

The team will look to regroup this week as they prepare for a game on Wednesday, Feb. 13th when they will host Phillips Academy Andover at Iorio Arena at 5:00pm.
