VBIH vs. Phillips Academy Andover: CA 8; PAA 4

Cushing Academy – 8
Phillips Academy Andover – 4
With only five games remaining in the regular season, the Cushing Varsity Boys' Hockey team were looking to get back in the win column and string together a few more victories in hopes a strong finish might land them a spot in the New England Prep School Playoffs.  In their second to last home game on the schedule, the Penguins took on Phillips Andover Academy at Iorio Arena for a Wednesday afternoon match-up.  Two Penguin players scored hat tricks and two others each recorded three-point games en route to the 8-4 victory.
A strong first period, led by forward Jacob Banks' ’20 two goals, and a Patrick Borella ‘19 rebound goal helped give the Penguins a 3-1 early cushion.  The teams traded goals in the second period.  For Cushing it was Anthony Cafarelli ’21 netting his first as a Penguin.  Heading into the final period leading by two, the home team continued their relentless forechecking and put up four more goals.  Nick Cafarelli ’20 scored just 2:08 into the period when he finished on a beautiful back door pass by Connor Wood ‘20.  Just under four minutes later, Banks completed his hat trick on an outstanding short-handed effort.  N. Cafarelli, who finished the night with five points, scored mid-period and then again to complete his hat trick into the empty net with just 10 seconds to go.  Borella and A. Cafarelli each finished the night with a goal and two assists.
Next up for the Penguins is Senior Night on Friday, Feb. 15th when the Penguins host Kimball Union Academy at 5:15pm.  The seniors who will be honored on Friday include Max Bogdanovich, Patrick Borella, Pat Keegan, Joe Sharib, and Brad Zona. The Penguins will finish their regular season schedule with three games on the road starting on Saturday, Feb. 16th.
