VBIH vs. Kimball Union Academy: CA 1; KUA 1 *OT

Cushing Academy – 1 Kimball Union Academy – 1 *Overtime* After losing to Kimball Union Academy at Iorio Arena in their final regular season home game on Friday night, the Cushing Varsity Boys' Hockey team travelled to KUA on Saturday night for a rare back-to-back matchup against the highly-ranked Wildcats.  With a depleted and banged up roster, the Penguins took to the ice in hopes of giving their playoff chances a boost.  The two teams battled hard throughout and settled for a 1-1 tie. While the first period did not produce any goals, the Penguins were feeling strong as they successfully killed off multiple penalties, including an extended period while being down two players.  In the second period, when the Penguins were unable to get the puck deep on a broken play at the offensive blue line, they got caught in transition and KUA struck gold first.  However, the Penguins answered just four minutes later when Max Dorrington '20 entered the zone wide and took a long snapshot that beat the KUA goalie bar down short side.  Connor Wood '20 and Brad Zona '19 were credited with the assists.  The teams headed into the third period all knotted up at one apiece.  The Penguins' netminder, Joe Sharib '19, was excellent as he steered away 30 of the 31 shots he faced on the night.  He got a lot of help from his teammates as they blocked many KUA shots all game long, but none of the blocks was bigger than when Jackson Dorrington '22 calmly blocked a KUA threat on a dangerous looking 3-on-1, and turned it into a great looking offensive rush that almost produced the go-ahead goal late in the contest.  The game extended to a five-minute overtime period, but neither team could produce a game winner.   With their playoff hopes still very much alive, the Penguins will finish the regular season with two road games next week.  They will travel back up to New Hampshire to face New Hampton School on Wednesday, Feb. 20th at 4:30pm and then wrap up the regular season schedule at Governor's Academy on Saturday, Feb. 23rd at 4:00pm.  Season Record: 14-10-4
