The Cushing Varsity Boys’ Hockey team headed north to New Hampshire to take on New Hampton School in the Penguins’ second to last game of the regular season.  Cushing has been battling hard down the stretch, playing through some bumps and bruises, and giving their best effort as they try to solidify a playoff spot.  Five different Penguins lit the lamp and goaltender Joe Sharib ’19 earned the shutout by making 28 saves in a convincing 5-0 victory.

Patrick Borella ’19 got the scoring started midway through the first period after the Penguins had been pouring on the pressure with relentless forechecking.  Borella was assisted by Nick Cafarelli ’20 and Billy Norcross ‘21.  The Penguins broke out for three goals in the second period.  First, Brad Zona ’19 ripped one upstairs just as a power play had ended.  Bryce Montgomery ’21 was credited with the lone assist.  Then, great cycling and good positioning allowed Shane Zarcone’20 to score from the slot with assists from Max Dorrington ’20 and Connor Wood ‘20.  The final goal in the middle frame was a short side shot by Tim Kippenberger ’20 on assists by N. Cafarelli and Sharib, who initiated the play with a pass from his goal crease all the way to the far blue line.  In the third period the Huskies put forth a valiant effort to get on the scoreboard while on the power play, but the Penguin penalty killed defended well then N. Cafarelli got a pass from Zona, beat the last defender, and sniped top shelf to round out the scoring.
