On Friday night for the last regular season game of the 2018-2019 season, the Cushing Varsity Boys’ Basketball Penguins welcomed Brimmer & May School to the Watkins Field House. The Penguins were in search of their 22nd victory on the season and looking to contend for the top seed in the playoff hunt.
The game was in favor of the home team purple from the opening tip until the final buzzer. Cushing pushed the lead to 19 by halftime and carried the 43-24 lead into the locker room. The contributions came from all over the roster to secure the 88-54 victory for the Penguins.
A spectacular highlight came from Avery Heinz, who’s hot hand came alive in the second. Heinz canned three consecutive 3-pointers to bring the crowd and the bench to their feet in a cheering frenzy. The 3-pointer barrage was on for the game for Cushing as they hit 12 threes as a team, with Sean Conway dropping five of his own in the bucket.
With this being the final regular season game, the team will await the NEPSAC AA playoff seedings and location/time of their first-round game on Wednesday, Feb. 27th.
