VSB vs. Governor's Academy: CA 4; GA 17

Governor’s Academy – 17
Cushing Academy – 4
The Cushing Varsity Softball Penguins hit the diamond for their second game of the day on Saturday afternoon in a tilt against Governor’s Academy. It was an unfortunate afternoon for the Penguins as they were unable to replicate their success of their morning game and took a 17-4 defeat.
Cushing was up on the scoreboard 3-0 going into the top of the fifth inning when the Governor’s bats came alive. Governor’s would score 6 runs in the fifth inning and 11 runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. There would be multiple Cushing errors and a pitching change mixed in as well. Abby Boudreau ’21 started the game in the circle, but was relieved by Ava Humler ’21 in the sixth. The defense was not as sharp as they have been and the bats were not able to keep Cushing in the game despite collecting nine hits on the day. Having a multi-hit game for Cushing was Jalynd McDonald ’19 and Alyssa Wironen ’21.
The girls will look to bounce back into the win column when they head to Kingswood-Oxford School for a rescheduled game. This will be a huge league game for the Penguins as they need the win and some help from a few other league teams to make it to the play-in game for the softball playoffs. First pitch is schedule for 4:30pm on Tuesday, May 14th at Kingswood-Oxford.
Current Season Record: 12-4
