JVVB vs. Williston Northampton School: CA-0; WNS-3

Williston Northampton School - 3
Cushing Academy - 0
Set Scores: 19-25, 23-25, 18-25
The Cushing JV Volleyball team headed west to Easthampton, Massachusetts on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Wildcats of Williston Northampton School.  Although the Penguins played three competitive sets against the Wildcats, the skill of the home team from the serving line carried the match and they took a straight set victory on their home court.
Despite the loss, Cushing had some highlights on the afternoon and things to springboard off of going into this weekend’s game.  Bari Tuka ‘21 and Chelsea Mukete ‘23 had some electrifying blocks, Polina Belova ‘23 was stellar from the serving line, Ulrica Liu ‘23 was on the floor getting digs, and Alice Gong ‘23 had her first set of the season playing all positions.  Williston countered Cushing’s positives by bringing the best serving the Penguins have seen thus far this season. Although the Penguin back row fought to dig out as many Wildcat serves as possible, Williston scored multiple aces throughout each set.  A promising sign for the Penguins and the rest of the season to come was their even play at the net.
Cushing will look to bolster their serve/receive over the next two days of practice before hitting the court for a Family Weekend game on Saturday, October 19th.  The Penguins will welcome the Titans of Wilbraham & Monson Academy to the Watkins Field House for a 3:15pm match in front of Cushing’s home crowd of family and friends.
Season Record to Date: 4-4
