JVGB vs. Milton Academy: CA-13; MA-37

Milton Academy - 37
Cushing Academy -13

It was a tale of two halves as the Cushing JV Girls’ Basketball team hit the road and took on a tall, talented, and tenacious Milton Academy squad to open the 2020 calendar year
Facing full-court pressure from the start, it took the Penguins a few possessions to gain their composure and the Mustangs jumped out to a quick lead. Cushing responded by converting transition baskets and worked to catch Milton, getting within two points before Milton stretched the lead out again. Cushing trailed 12-18 at the half.

It was a slow start when the Penguins returned to the court and Milton, maintaining their full-court press and aggressive rebounding, took a double-digit lead within the first few minutes. A series of turnovers, missed attempts during fast breaks, and an inability to convert our foul shot opportunities combined for a low-scoring second half. Despite this, the Penguins maintained a strong team effort with every player earning time on the court.

Cushing looks to build on the lessons learned at Milton as they host the Big Red of Phillips Exeter Academy on Wednesday, January 15th.  Opening tip-off is scheduled for 3:30pm in Heslin Gym.
