VBBIH vs. Deerfield Academy: CA-0; DA-3

Deerfield Academy - 3
Cushing Academy - 0

The Cushing Varsity B Boys’ Hockey team headed west on Wednesday afternoon to Deerfield, Massachusetts to take on Deerfield Academy.  The Penguins had a short bench even with several JV call-ups due to a rash of injuries and fell 3-0 to the home team.

Making his second start between the pipes was Hiro Yano ‘23 and he was excellent throughout making 26 saves on 29 shots.  Yano kept the game scoreless into the third period before Deerfield finally broke through for their first of the game. Deerfield would add two more goals before the final buzzer went off despite the fight shown by the Penguins.  Josh Levesque ‘20 was a warrior on the defensive unit and he logged the majority of the defensive unit minutes. Playing admirably in his first Varsity B game was JV call-up Jackson Downey ‘23.

The Penguins won’t return to game action until next week and they will hit the practice ice over the next few days looking to make some improvements on their current systems and adapt to their short bench.  Next up for the Cushing squad will be a tilt against Route 12 rival Winchendon School Wapiti on Wednesday, February 5th. It will be a 2:30pm puck drop in Winchendon’s barn.
