VBBIH vs. Northfield Mount Hermon School: CA-0; NMH-3

Northfield Mount Hermon School - 3
Cushing Academy - 0

The Cushing Varsity B Boys’ Hockey team hit the road to Northfield, Massachusetts on Friday afternoon to celebrate Valentine’s Day with a tilt against the Hoggers of Northfield Mount Hermon School.  The rink at NMH is one of the few remaining outdoor rinks in the prep school circuit and Friday just happened to be one of the coldest days of the winter thus far. The Penguins were in for a challenge from the start as they adjusted to the cold of the rink whereas the Hoggers utilized their home ice advantage.

The game was a tight affair to start with the only goal in the first period being a shorthanded goal off the stick of an NMH player.  Holding the 1-0 lead after the first, the Hoggers added a second goal in the second period off a Penguin turnover to push their lead to 2-0.

In the third period, the Penguins pressed hard to try to get back into the game, but could not find the back of the Hogger net.  Cushing was forced to pull their goalie for the extra skater in hopes of getting a couple quick ones with the 6-on-5 scheme. The extra man team of Parker Davis ‘23, Brendan Dougherty ‘20, Trevor Hada ‘20, Josh Levesque ‘20, and Aidan Gorman ‘22 got some chances at the net, but they hit a few posts and were unable to score.  The final score was 3-0 in favor of NMH. Playing between the pipes for Cushing was Ben Speyer ‘20, who played fantastically and had 27 saves.

Next up for the Penguins will be another road game tomorrow, Saturday, February 15th at 4:00pm at Kimball Union Academy.
