VBB vs. Lawrence Academy: CA-73; LA-60

Cushing Academy - 73
Lawrence Academy - 60

Honoring their seniors in a pre-game ceremony, the Cushing Varsity Boys’ Basketball team welcomed the Lawrence Academy Spartans to the Watkins Field House for a Saturday afternoon game.  It was a AA vs. ISL match-up with the strong Cushing team taking the victory to extend their winning streak to 10 in a row.

An on-court pre-game ceremony happened prior to tip-off to honor the contributions of this year’s seniors.  Each senior was accompanied on the court by family, friends, and teammates to make the afternoon just a bit more special.  Those seniors included Will Campbell, Malachi Ndur, Dan Braster, Toby Okani, Isaiah Gray, Coby Gold, Clay Bolster, Sean Okpoebo, and Jack Gumbert.  Along with the players, the team acknowledged senior manager Libby Schoolar her work over the past two seasons.

Once the senior ceremony concluded the game tipped-off.  Early on the Spartans played with toughness to get themselves out to an early 8-point lead over the Penguins.  A time-out by Cushing to gather themselves and refocus on the job at hand and the tides quickly turned into the Penguins’ favor.  High defensive energy led to baskets in transition and helped the Penguins take a lead with twelve minutes left in the half. By the end of the first stanza, Cushing was ahead by a comfortable 19-points.  In the second half, the Penguins utilized their depth to keep the energy up on the court and received contributions from every rostered player. The seniors celebrated a 73-60 victory on their senior day to extend the team’s winning streak to 10 games.
