VBB vs. Bradford Christian Academy: CA-88; BCA-86 *OVERTIME*
Cushing Academy - 88
Bradford Christian Academy - 86
Playing in their second game in 24-hours, the Cushing Varsity Boys’ Basketball team traveled to the YMCA in Plaistow, New Hampshire to take on the Sentinels of Bradford Christian Academy. This would be the back half of a home-and-home series between the two teams with Cushing taking the sure victory back in November.
This game had a different tone to it as the improvements to the BCA team were on display. The Sentinels put the Penguins to a true test and brought them to the wire in overtime, although the Penguins would pull out the slim victory when the buzzer sounded. Cushing got off to a strong start off the tip as they went on a 7-0 run before BCA got on the board. The Sentinels, however, would not give up and fought their way back to cut the lead to just four points after it had been in double digits.
In the second half, the Penguins found themselves in quite a hole after the Sentinels got hot from behind the arc (12 3-pointers in the game) to take an 8-point lead. Cushing relied on their solid defensive game to get themselves back in the game and not allow it to slip away. A couple key defensive stops near the end of the game and clutch free throws by Malachi Ndur ‘20 (8 points, 8 rebounds) forced an overtime period.
The theme of the overtime period for Cushing was strong defense. They shut down the BCA offensive unit and held on for an 88-86 victory to push their win streak to 11 straight.
