Students Respond to Tragedy in Haiti

“We are seeing a tremendous response from our student body in rallying our community to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti,” said Dean of Students Bob Macioci. “I am very proud of the many kids who have started planning fundraising events.”

One such group of Cushing students has formed the Forward in Health Fundraising Committee for Haiti Relief. These students were planning a service trip to Haiti with the group Forward in Health (FIH) this July. Since the recent earthquake has put their trip on hold, these students have launched fundraising efforts to send to Haiti the funds for supplies that they desperately need. Students set up a table in the dining hall and collected $1,800 in cash and penguin point donations in one day.

The FIH organization is on the ground now with the people of Haiti and is sending our students information on how to help. Based in Gardner, Massachusetts, FIH works to provide basic healthcare and restore human dignity to the children, families and elders of Haiti's poorest communities.
