Schottland House Dedication

Schottland House, Cushing’s newest dormitory, was formally named and dedicated during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, October 21, 2011. Schottland House, Cushing’s newest dormitory, was formally named and dedicated during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, October 21, 2011. The dorm, which stands at the former site of the Mary Hare barn, houses 10 senior girls and was made possible by the vision and generosity of Peter and Susan Schottland, parents of Meghan ’09 and Brandt ’12.

“Susan and Peter’s vision in creating a new dormitory to house senior girls and a faculty family has been guided at every step by their commitment to the vital role that dorm life plays in the Cushing residential experience,” said Headmaster Tracy. “As Cushing parents, they have seen firsthand that the friendships among students and the student-teacher bonds that are formed in the dorm play a very important role in the daily life of our boarding students. The Schottlands set out to design a space that would reflect and nurture that important sense of community, and this wonderful dormitory is a result of their vision and generosity.”

Following the ceremony, residents gave tours to guests, showcasing the many highlights such as the large common space, outdoor patio, sink and vanity in each room, radiant heat flooring, air conditioning, and extensive renovations in Mary Hare House for faculty members.

All of us at Cushing are grateful for this new addition, which will serve as a model for future construction and renovation across campus.
