On Tuesday, the Cushing Scholars were treated to an evening of modern and classical Latino dance from Luna Negra Dance Theater at the historic Capital Center for the Arts in Concord, New Hampshire. Grammy-award winning string musicians, Turtle Island Quartet, accompanied the Chicago-based dancers on stage.
The brilliant musicians and dancers presented a varied program of traditional and modern Latino dance forms with energy, passion, and humor, truly creating a modern work of performing art.
Below is what a few Scholars wrote after the show:
“This performance was absolutely terrific. I loved how the dances within the show each told a different story, and I got a taste of Latin culture with each one. The Turtle Island Quartet was outstanding, and I appreciated the incorporation of live music into the dance performance. I am so thankful I got the chance to see this- it has definitely given me a new perspective on dance!” (Laura O’Neil)
“The performance of the night was one that I will forever remember. I enjoyed the balance between delicate ballet motions and blunt, modern twists on unique dance moves. The masculine, almost awkward, body movement of the dancers was unlike any other dances that I have ever seen.” (Meghan Chenausky)
“I have attended many dance performances before, but none as unique as this. Their movements with the music are like nothing I've seen before. I absolutely loved watching the dance.” (Shaylah O’Connor)
