Studying Renewable Energy

Taking advantage of local resources, a group of students from Mrs. Salvucci’s Ecology class recently visited nearby Mount Wachusett Community College to discuss renewable energy and to see the school’s green efforts in action.
Students met with facility director Bill Swift, who explained how the college heats kitchen water with solar panels, uses biomass for building heat, and generates a large percentage (sometimes 100% depending upon the season) of its electricity via wind turbines. The group later met with members of Ashburnham Municipal Light to view the town’s solar panels and learn more about efforts to green the town’s energy supply.
