Cushing Scholars at MIT Museum

The Cushing Scholars group recently engaged in a new hands-on workshop, Physics and Photography, at the MIT Museum. They began the day with a guided tour of the Berenice Abbott exhibition, exploring her famous NYC photos of the 1930s as well as her 1950s photographs created for high-school physics textbooks. Using the MIT Museum’s historical photography collections as inspiration, students designed and captured their own images of physics experiments focused on wave and magnetism using their smart phones and the museum’s strobe photography equipment. Graduate students at MIT led the workshop, which is designed to inspire interest in science, technology, and engineering.
