Professional Development: Translate the Brain

On Tuesday, January 2, the full faculty held a professional development workshop with Mr. Andrew Watson, the founder of "Translate the Brain," a program designed to explore and explain practical teaching implications of today's brain sciences.

Mr. Watson, who has a Master of Education from Harvard's "Mind Brain Education" program, presented the most current neuroscience information related to working memory and long-term memory. As a fifteen-year veteran of boarding schools, he was able to relate well to the types of challenges presented in the academic environment at Cushing. His presentation was mixed with breakout sessions in which the faculty worked on their own lesson plans and discussed how the information reviewed can be relevant to our students' work. Overall it was a productive way for the faculty to start the new year, and a welcome chance to reflect on the work that we do.
