Cushing Proctors deliver a letter of support to victims of Newtown school shooting.
After the horrific tragedy of the school shootings in Newtown, Connecticut, thirteen Cushing Academy Proctors gathered together over winter break with a goal of helping in some way. The group wanted to send a message that our entire school community was thinking of the victims and their families. “We came to the conclusion that we would place a written letter an flowers at the memorial,” said Jack Peacock ’13. “I believe we all felt that the process gave us a huge sense of fulfillment.”
Jack delivered the letter and flowers in person on New Year’s Day, and placed the Cushing contribution alongside stuffed animals, hand-drawn posters and other letters. He was greeted by members of the local community and shared with them the Proctors’ support on behalf of the entire Cushing community. “The effort put forth by all the Proctors was amazing and I felt honored to be the one to deliver the items to the memorial.”
Kylie Caouette ’15 also felt a sense of motivation upon hearing the shocking news. “I hope that by showing the victims we care, it will help heal their heartache. I was trying to prove not only to them but also to myself that good people and kind hearts far outnumber the bad in times like these.”
Below is their letter:
Dear Charlotte Bacon, Daniel Barden, Olivia Engel, Josephine Gay, Ana Marquez-Greene, Dylan Hockley, Madeleine Hsu, Catherine Hubbard, Chase Kowalski, Jesse Lewis, James Mattioli, Grace McDonnell, Emilie Parker, Jack Pinto, Noah Pozner, Caroline Previdi, Jessica Rekos, Avielle Richman, Benjamin Wheeler, Allison N. Wyatt, Rachel Davino, Dawn Hochsprung, Anne Marie Murphy, Lauren Russeau, Mary Sherlach, and Victoria Soto:
Please know that our thoughts and prayers remain with you and your loved ones. We hope that if we show how much we care, they will be strengthened and comforted as they struggle to deal with something which is almost unimaginable. Although we did not personally know any of you, know that we care. Your spirits will never die out. God is lucky to be in the presence of 26 beautiful angels.
