Comparative Religion Class Welcomes Rabbi

What is the Jewish view of the prophets? How does Judaism explain there being a compassionate God when there is so much suffering in the world? How are new scientific discoveries affecting Judaism and how are you handling its repercussions? These are just a few of the questions posed to a visiting Rabbi in Mr. Carey’s Comparative Religion class.

Rabbi Alan Alpert, who serves at Congregation Agudat Achim in Leominster, shared an overview of the Jewish faith with the class, exploring historical roots and modern interpretations, the importance of the Sabbath and high holidays, and the various forms of Judaism. The discussion was a great opportunity for students to get a first-hand glimpse of Jewish beliefs and practices and to explore the similarities and differences across various religions.
