A Night with 2014 Olympian Meghan Duggan '06

On Thursday, January 16, a contingent from Cushing surprised Meghan Duggan ’06, at the “Women in Sports: A Night with Meghan Duggan” event hosted by the Friends of the Boston Blades in Dorchester, Massachusetts, where she spoke about her hockey journey, being an Olympian, and playing professional women’s hockey. Meghan, a 2010 silver medalist for the U.S. women’s hockey team, is headed to Sochi as the captain of the 2014 women’s national team.
A bit about Meghan: Playing with the Boston Blades since 2011, as captain, she led the team to win the League and 2013 Clarkson Cup. The Danvers, MA native was named 2011 Sportswoman of the Year by the Women’s Sports Foundation. A 2010 Olympic silver medalist for team USA, she has competed in a number of tournaments with the red, white, and blue, including four IHF World Championships, five Four Nations Cup, Quest Tour in 2009, and was a two-time member of the U.S. Women’s Under-22 Select Team, which she captained in 2008. A four-year letter winner at the University of Wisconsin, she leads the Badgers in career points (238), career plus/minus (+164) and is tied for the program’s lead in career power-play goals (31). The three-time National Champion earned a number of accolades at Wisconsin, including Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Winner, RBK/AHCA Division I first-team All-American, WCHA Player of the Year, WCHA Scoring Champion, WCHA Final Face-Off All-Tournament team, NCAA Frozen Four Co-MVP, All-Tournament Team member, WCHA Rookie of the Year, two-time Offensive Player of the Year, and Jeff Sauer Most Dedicated Player award recipient. At Cushing, she played soccer, softball, lacrosse, and hockey, which she captained her senior year. She was a three-year recipient of the Bette Davis top female athlete award.
We look to following Meghan’s journey in the Winter Olympics as this Penguin goes for the gold!
