Meet the Library Director: Mark Melchior

Mark Melchior joined Cushing as Director of the Fisher-Watkins Library. He has attended the University of Notre Dame for his undergraduate degree, Yale University for a master’s degree, and Boston College, where he did doctoral work. He received his master’s degree in library and information science from McGill University. Most recently, Mark served as a librarian at Fitchburg State University. He lives in Groton with his partner, Todd.
“The digital library at Cushing was clearly a milestone in 21st century education. Understanding there’s a second act to every great performance, I was intrigued by the opportunity to rebalance the collections in light of the changes in the culture and the curriculum at Cushing,” he said.
I'm really interested in the library as a physical environment and its impact on the how we use the space. The Cushing library is an interesting case in point: how can it be, at one time, a collaborative space, a creative learning environment and still offer a traditional study space for those who want it."
